Awesome Wares’ customer service helps them design bright future

AVON LAKE — What started as a small family owned shop in 1982 has blossomed into a booming business with a touch of a remaining mom and pop flair.
Awesome Wares, 32961 Pin Oak Parkway, Avon Lake, owned by Bobby Colagross, specializes in embroidering corporate apparel. Colagross and his five full-time employees are the faces behind some embroidered clothing worn nationally by Home Depot, Cub Cadet, GlaxoSmithKline and Merrill Lynch. Locally, Awesome Wares is the designer behind the Lake Erie Crushers apparel and the Avon and Avon Lake school districts’ clothing and spirit wear.
This year, the company received its first Golden 30 award.
“The thing that I love about this job is that no day is ever the same,” Colagross said. “Every client order is different. Every client’s need is different. Variety is the spice of Awesome Wares.”
The business started in the basement of an Avon home, but moved to Avon Lake when it more than doubled in its first and second years. What Colagross prides himself on is great customer service.
“My wife and I both came from a heavy customer service background,” Colagross said. “We work on always getting to ‘yes’ with clients, and we work to create great solutions.”
Awesome Wares services more than 2,200 clients nationwide and embroiders everything from shirts to aprons to hats. It also works with clients to design and customize logos. For example, if a company was doing a breast cancer benefit and wants to add the breast cancer ribbon to its logo and turn it pink, Colagross will work with the company to get it done.
Recently, Awesome Wares was ranked as the fifth-fastest distributor in the world by The Counselor magazine, a publication that highlights the promotional products industry.
